Subject: EU Emissions Trading (EU-ETS)

There have been continuing delays to the European Commission’s publication of their definitive list of operators that will be required to comply with the regulations on EU-ETS. The UK’s Department for Transport has accordingly decided to postpone the implementation of the UK programme and the 31 August deadline for ETS registration has been delayed. A new deadline may be set for November 2009 following the publication of the list which is now expected in August.

For information, compliance with EU-ETS will only be required for aircraft operated in the following categories:
  • MTOW greater than 5700kg
  • Corporate – if nominated on DG Environment list of operators
  • Commercial – if emitting more than 10k tonnes carbon dioxide annually OR conducting more than 243 flights in 3 consecutive months
I am very grateful to the European Business Aviation Association for permission to include their ETS and MRV Decision Maker tool here.
