Many companies offer helicopter charter for business or social reasons and charter is a popular way of avoiding the traffic associated with major sporting events. Charter prices vary with the type of helicopter and the duration of the charter. When considering a helicopter charter you must ensure the operator has a valid Air Operators’ Certificate (AOC). The pilot must also hold a commercial pilot license.
This is to ensure that the operator complies with the necessary safety standards. Without an AOC, it is illegal to carry fare-paying passengers and you will not be insured. All BHA member companies offering charter flights have the legally required permissions and qualified crews. Go to illegal public transport for further information. The holder of a private pilot’s license (PPL) is not legally permitted to receive any remuneration or reward for carrying passengers.
For information and advice about helicopter charter please contact a BHA member company near you. For a list of BHA members offering charter services please view the BHA Members offering Charter services PDF document.
