Job Title: Casework Officer

Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex (Office-based)
Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days)
Salary: £25,000 – £27,500

Reports to: General Secretary

About Us

The Independent Pilots Association (IPA) is a professional association dedicated to supporting and representing pilots in the UK. We provide expert advice, representation, and advocacy on employment matters, ensuring our members receive fair treatment in the workplace.

Job Purpose

The Casework Officer will provide expert advice and representation to IPA members on a wide range of employment issues, including disciplinary matters, grievances, capability concerns, and employment tribunal cases. The successful candidate must have solid experience of representation of employees in the workplace and will be able to demonstrate a good knowledge and understanding of HR processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and support to members on employment-related issues.
  • Represent and advocate for members in internal workplace hearings, disciplinary meetings, and grievance procedures.
  • Preparing cases for employment tribunal proceedings and providing representation, in collaboration with the legal department.
  • Work closely with the General Secretary and legal team to ensure high-quality representation and advice.
  • Keep up to date with relevant law and processes.
  • Travel across the UK as required to represent members in meetings and hearings.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of HR processes and Trade Union functions.
  • Experience in casework management and representing individuals in employment disputes.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to negotiate, mediate, and advocate on behalf of members.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A clean UK driving licence and willingness to travel.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Understanding of a membership organisation.
  • Knowledge of aviation industry employment issues.
